Frequently asked questions
What to know before class
Answers about choosing a course, registering, paying, and preparing for your class.
Choosing a class
Which class should I take?
If you are completing Colorado Firearms Safety Program training, choose the 4-hour Basic course when you have hunter education verified by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Choose the 12-hour Extended course if you do not. For traditional concealed carry education, compare the CCW 4-hour and 8-hour options.
Are the FSP and CCW courses interchangeable?
No. Colorado Parks and Wildlife states that concealed carry training does not substitute for the Firearms Safety Program requirements associated with specified semiautomatic firearm purchases or transfers.
Do I need an eligibility card for an FSP class?
Yes. A valid Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card is required to enroll in either the Basic or Extended FSP course. You will enter the card number during registration.
Do I attend both dates of a 12-hour class?
Yes. The dates are required sessions of one class, not separate class choices. Your single registration includes every session displayed on the class-details page.
Registration and payment
How do I register?
Open the class calendar, select a class, review its complete schedule and available spaces, and submit the registration form. If the class has multiple sessions, registering once reserves your place for all of them.
How does online payment work?
After submitting your registration, the next screen provides the class payment option. Online card payments are processed securely by Square; this website does not collect your payment-card information.
Will I receive a confirmation?
Yes. The registration system sends a confirmation to the email address you provide. Check your spam or junk folder if it does not arrive, and contact us if you still cannot find it.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Email us as soon as possible. We will review the circumstances and available class dates with you. Please ask about the terms for your particular class before paying if you have scheduling concerns.
Preparing for class
Where is the class held?
The location is shown with each scheduled session when available. The Smart Shooter is located east of Colorado Springs and can also arrange training at another location for qualifying private or group classes.
What should I bring?
Requirements can vary by course. Review the class details and your confirmation email. If firearms, ammunition, identification, or other equipment are needed and the listing does not specify them, contact us before class.
Do you offer private or group training?
Yes, depending on the course, group size, and location. Contact us with the type of training, approximate number of students, and preferred dates.
