About your instructor
Andy Alexander founded The Smart Shooter to help responsible gun owners develop sound judgment, safer habits, and a clearer understanding of personal protection.
Andy has been around firearms from an early age and has continued studying firearms, safety, and self-defense throughout his life. His teaching style is friendly, direct, and focused on helping students understand the reasons behind responsible practices—not simply memorizing a list of rules.
He joined the United States Army in 1984 and served as an Infantry Officer, receiving handgun-specific, Military Operations in Urban Terrain, and domestic and foreign weapons training.
Andy has also practiced martial arts since 1975 and has experience as a competitive martial artist. That background contributes to a broad approach to personal protection that includes awareness, decision-making, legal considerations, and the aftermath of a defensive incident.
