Colorado Firearms Safety Program courses and concealed handgun permit courses serve different purposes. Use the course guide if you are unsure which path applies to you.
Firearms Safety Program Courses
Both courses require a sheriff-issued Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card. CPW-verified hunter education determines which course you take.
- Basic course: 4 hours with verified hunter education
- Extended course: 12 hours without verified hunter education
- All required sessions shown before registration
Concealed Handgun Permit Courses
Choose the course that matches where you are in the Colorado permit process.
- Initial Permit Course — 8 Hours
- Permit Renewal / Refresher Course — 2 Hours
- In-person instruction, exams, and live-fire requirements

Andy combines decades of firearms, military, martial-arts, and self-defense experience with a friendly, direct teaching style. His goal is to help students understand the reasons behind responsible practices—not simply memorize a list of rules.

I had little to no experience with guns, and Andy did not talk down to me or disregard me. When I left, I felt comfortable enough to handle handguns. I would recommend Andy’s class to everyone, especially women.
Four hours flew by. I’ve been to a few carry classes, but still learned a lot of information. Very informative, and I am glad that I attended.
I was not sure what to expect from a CHP permit class, but Andy’s class was informative, concise, and relieved me of my concerns about carrying a concealed handgun.
